On October 10, 2025 California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 1127 into law, banning the commercial sale of all Glock and Glock style handguns. The following Monday, October 13, 2025 SAF and its partners filed a lawasuit challenging the ban.

The law bans the sale of “…any semiautomatic pistol with a cruciform trigger bar that can be readily converted by hand or with common household tools…into a machinegun by the installation or attachment of a pistol converter as a replacement for the slide’s backplate without any additional engineering, machining, or modification of the pistol’s trigger mechanism.” The Glock ban takes effect on July 1, 2026.

Because Glock and Glock platform handguns are indisputably in common use for lawful purposes across the nation and in California, they fall squarely within the protections fo the Second Amendment and cannot be banned.

SAF is joined in the case by the National Rifle Association of America, Firearms Policy Coalition, a licensed firarms retailer, and two individuals

Case Team: David H. Thompson, Peter A. Patterson, William V. Bergstrom, Bradley A. Benbrook, Stephen M. Duvernay.
