On May 26, 2026 Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed into law Senate Bill 334, which states a person “…may not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, purchase, receive, or transfer a machine gun convertible pistol.” It further defines a “machine gun convertible pistol” as a firearm that contains a cruciform trigger bar. The ban goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2027. In no uncertain terms, the new law bans the ability to acquire some of the most common handguns in the entire country, namely Glocks and those based on its now-expired patents. Such a ban violates the Second Amendment’s protection over arms that are in common use for lawful purposes.
Just hours after Gov. Moore signed the bill, Second Amendment Foundation, joined by the National Rifle Association and Firearms Policy Coaltion, filed suit, alleging that the bill violated the Second and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.
